Merle hodge biography

Merle Hodge (born ) is a Trinidadian novelist and literary critic. Her novel Crick Crack, Monkey is a classic of West Indian literature, [1] and Hodge is acknowledged as the first black Caribbean woman to have published a major work of fiction. [2][3]. Set in Trinidad, Merle Hodge's Crick Crack, Monkey traces the young life of Tee, the novel's female heroine. Her changing vocabulary maps her encounters with the colonial culture of Britain and her simultaneous movement away from her island roots.
