Thomas Cromwell (/ ˈkrɒmwəl, - wɛl /; [1][a] c. – 28 July ) was an English statesman and lawyer who served as chief minister to King Henry VIII from to , when he was beheaded on orders of the King, who later blamed false charges for the execution. Thomas Cromwell was the principal adviser to England’s Henry VIII and chiefly responsible for establishing the Reformation in England. At the instigation of his enemies, he was eventually arrested for heresy and treason and executed.
